Sam's Top Drugstore Lipsticks

Tuesday, 13 January 2015

When I decided to write this post I had initially planned it to be ‘Top 5 Drug Store Lipsticks’. But as you can probably tell that didn’t happen. Being a self-confessed lipstick addict I could not narrow it down to just 5 lipsticks when there are so many favourites in my ever growing collection. So top 7 it is! I have picked these lipsticks for both formula and colour, however most of them I have in several shades all of which I love also. These are in no particular order of favourite, if like me you have a love affair with your lipsticks you will understand that putting these in that sort of order would be like putting your children in order of favourites! So without further ado let’s get to it.

The first on the list isn’t a new comer to the drugstore line up, but it defiantly deserves a special mention. Revlon Lip Butter’s. That is all I need to say. I personally have the majority of the shades in the collection purely due to how incredible these feel to wear. They do, as the name suggests feel like butter on the lips. With the consistency of a lip balm and the colour pay off of a lipstick, what is there not to like? If you not yet comfortable with wearing bright colours on your lips then the Revlon Lip Butters are the way to go. Some of the shades in the range are quite sheer, and some are really pigmented, so there is something for everyone. This particular colour is Juicy Papaya, a sheer orange/coral shade, perfect for spring time, or on a casual type of makeup day.

Second on the list is the Bourjois Colour Boost Lip Crayon in shade peach on the beach. Again these crayons are easy to wear with a glossy, pigmented formula. The shade range isn't great, but with what little colours they do have I am sure anyone would find at least that they love.

Sticking with the Lip Crayons next up is the Revlon ColourBurst Matte Balm in the shade Audacious. If you haven’t tried these then it would be hard to believe that a matte lipstick could sit so easily on the lips, with no drying What.So.Ever. not one little bit I promise you. You can even rub your lips together whilst wearing this baby – believe me it’s true.

One product that hasn’t had the notice it should have is the Bourjois Shine Edition Lipsticks. These lipsticks are crazy pigmented and again have a nice glossy finish. This shade is Famous Fuchsia and is lovely for both the summer and winter months.

Bourjois are on point with lipsticks right now with the next being another stand out product by them. It is of course the Rouge Edition Velvets. These lipsticks have had a lot of hype in the beauty community and I am here to tell you that this is one product that is certainly worth that hype. The formula is hard to describe, not quite a liquid lipstick but more of a gel consistency which goes on smoothly and settles to form a matte finish. The shade I have here is Frambourjoise, which is a lovely deep fuchsia.

My final two picks are both from Rimmel. The first is from the original lasting finish line. I have quite a few from this line but this perfect nude is hands down my favourite of them all. It is not just your standard nude, this one has a beautiful shine to the finish, that isn’t glossy but just so pretty In the way that it reflects the light. I was never one for a nude lipstick until this one came into my life. The shade is 206 Nude Pink and if this is missing from your collection my advice would be to run and get it, you will not regret it!

Last but not least is from the Rimmel Kate Moss Lasting Finish line. These lipsticks are Matte, long lasting and come in a great range of colours. This is by far my all-time favourite red! It has blue undertones which is perfect for making your teeth look whiter and is the perfect balance of dark and light tones to suit almost all skin tones.

From Left to Right - Revlon Lip Butter, Rimmel Lasting Finish, Bourjois Colour Boost, Bourjois Shine Edition, Revlon ColourBurst, Rimmel Kate Moss Collection (I forgot to swatch the bourjois Velvet, Sorry!).

So there you have it! I could go on all day about how much I love these lipsticks, but that would be a very VERY long blog post. I hope this inspires you to try some of these if you haven’t already. Let me know in the comments any recommendations of lipsticks from the drugstore.

Be back soon…….

Love Sam
